Wandering in Wonderland – Review

This is the first book I’ve read by a fellow Parliament House author, and it was so fun to see what other kinds of stories they’re interested in. Honeycutt’s novel (novella? it’s quite short) is a lovely look into an alternate version of Wonderland, where the residents are the souls of those who lived unhappy lives. I love the idea that a magical yet complicated world is the consolation prize for life being kind of shitty. It’s a way more interesting version of Heaven than angels and clouds!

The plot clips along at a great pace, with few diversions from the main thrust. My only complaint was that the protagonist Jessica is a little too reactive for my tastes. She starts the book with no memory of her life, which makes her a little bit bland; the story is sort of happening TO her rather than because of her. But I think she’s going to slowly grow into her own over the course of the series (this is just the first book).

Great bi representation, and a truly beautiful book design. Check it out!
