Our Dark Duet – Review

I enjoyed a lot of things about this book. August’s emotional journey. Kate everything. The world building that deepened without falling totally off the map, as so many sequels do.

I wasn’t a fan of the POV chapters from the villains. They felt needlessly violent, and I found myself skimming a bit because I wasn’t really interested in all the gore and screaming.

I liked the poetic chapters a lot, and I loved the new monster. I did find the rules a little vague – it seemed quite easy for Kate to take monsters down in this version, and yet an entire army of trained humans couldn’t keep control of half a city, which made me feel like the power levels were narratively decided, and a bit fuzzy in-world.

Overall I enjoyed it, and it was a satisfying conclusion. I really enjoyed the deleted chapters at the end, too, that was neat.
