Love – True Love – Will Follow You Forever

Birds on a FenceForever is a very long time, but I would spend forever with you. If the days stretched out in front of us like a beautiful sunrise on a beach when you really kind of need to pee but there are no bathrooms around, I would spend every squirming moment beside you, but I hope you’d forgive me for thinking about the bathrooms at least once or twice every few minutes.

If time slowed to a crawl like a slug trying to slither its way to freedom as the shadow of a hungry bird filled the air around it with grey impending doom, I would slither beside you, and maybe even attempt to launch my slug body on top of your slug body, but only because we would probably both be about to be eaten and if we’re both going to die anyway (but not if only you’re going to die) then I want to die first. That’s how much I love you!

I love you so much that when someone else writes a sonnet about love, I think it must have been written about us, and when I sing karaoke I’m always thinking of you, and every note and every word echoes with the memory of your face and the imprint of your kisses; unless I’m singing “I Will Survive,” because that song is a freaking anthem and sometimes a guy’s got to let his groove out!

When I go out and you aren’t with me, I imagine you beside me, and sometimes I have conversations with you, and people are always telling me that if I want to have a conversation with you I should probably just call you or text you instead of talking to the air because it makes me look schizophrenic, which can make other people nervous, but I say it makes me look romantic! I said it to the people on the bus, and I said it to the police officer, and I said it to you when you came to pick me up from jail. And I’ll say it again now – you’re always with me.

No one can ever be alone when they’re in love. Though sometimes I do wish you would respect the closed door of the bathroom and afford me a little bit of privacy, because doesn’t everyone say that mystery is what keeps romance alive? And I know what’s happening behind the bathroom door isn’t exactly mysterious because we all do it, but let’s pretend that while I’m in there I’m communing with the spirits or something equally mysterious, and from now let’s make that the place where romance goes to stay alive, okay?

Because our romance is going to have a long life, and we want to make sure it’s a healthy one; through every sunset, any dangers, all the poetry, the outside challenges and the mystery, our love will grow, and thrive, and it will survive – hey hey!
